Knowledge and Experience:
At least 5 years of experience in Key Account Management within the shipping, freight forwarding, or logistics industry, with a specific focus on Import/Export and Cross-Trade operations
Strong understanding of commercial processes, including pricing strategies, margin management, and business development. Proven track record of driving revenue growth through strategic account management
Comprehensive knowledge of international shipping, trade compliance, customs regulations and cross-border operations. Familiarity with various shipping methods (air, ocean, road, rail)
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively and influence key decision-makers
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends, troubleshoot challenges, and propose data-driven solutions that benefit both clients and the business
Exceptional client-facing skills, demonstrating the ability to manage relationships with large and complex accounts while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with logistics software (Cargowise)
Responsibilities:
Serve as the main point of contact for key accounts, building and maintaining robust, long-term relationships. Understand the unique needs of each client and provide tailored, proactive solutions that address their shipping requirements in Import/Export and Cross trade operations.
Take ownership of account growth, ensuring continued business development through identifying and capitalising on upselling and cross-selling opportunities. Leverage commercial insights to identify new business opportunities within existing client portfolios
Oversee and coordinate the smooth execution of shipments, ensuring all operations are carried out in compliance with international regulations and customer requirements. Work closely with logistics and operational teams to optimise performance across various transportation modes (air, ocean, road and rail)
Manage and facilitate cross-border and cross-trade shipments, ensuring all activities are in line with local customs regulations, trade compliance, and international law. Navigate complex trade routes and regulations to provide efficient and cost-effective solutions for clients.
Monitor the financial aspects of each account, ensuring profitability through efficient cost management, pricing strategies, and negotiation with vendors and carriers. Develop pricing structures that align with the company's business objectives while maintaining competitive service offerings for clients.
Act as the escalation point for client issues, managing and resolving complex problems with a solutions-oriented approach. Identify and mitigate risks associated with shipping and trade operations, working to prevent service disruptions or regulatory compliance failures.
Stay up to date with industry trends, competitor activities, and global market conditions. Advise clients on potential impacts of these changes, offering strategic guidance to adapt to evolving trade environments.
Work closely with internal teams, including sales, operations, customer service, and finance, to ensure the delivery of seamless and effective solutions for clients. Provide detailed performance reports to senior management, offering insights into account health, growth opportunities, and operational challenges.
